Cambodia Tax Department to Use AI and GDT HomeTax to Ease Compliance

The General Department of Taxation in Cambodia plans to deploy artificial intelligence to improve tax administration and make it easier for taxpayers to comply and pay taxes. The announcement was made by Deputy Director General Bun Nary during a panel on innovation and integrated ecosystems at the ASEAN Cambodia Business Summit 2026 on 4 March in Phnom Penh, where she said AI in tax administration is expected to boost capacity, efficiency, transparency and trust, in line with a global trend of using AI in tax management.

As part of broader tax reform and digitalisation, the department has officially launched the GDT HomeTax system, a modern digital platform that allows taxpayers to check their records and fulfil tax obligations via mobile phone or computer in a fast, simple and secure way. GDT Director General Kong Vibol described GDT HomeTax as a single digital gateway for Cambodia's tax administration, consolidating 83 existing systems and applications into one entry point. The platform centralises key services including electronic filing, e-payment and online forms, aiming to reduce administrative burdens, lower compliance costs and encourage more timely and transparent tax payments by individuals and businesses.
